Hopefully someone can help me?
This vase seems to have London and Birmingham hallmarks?
I was hoping someone could give me some info on how old this vase may be and any other interesting information.
Thanks in advance!
The Birmingham hallmark has the date letter "d" for 1903 and the maker's (or sponsor's) mark for B T Greening whose company had addresses in both London and Birmingham. Unfortunately your picture of the hallmark on the base is not clear enough to be sure about its details; I can't make out an uncrowned leopard's head but the shape of the punch is more suggestive of London than Birmingham. If the date letter were "h" that too would be 1903. The sponsor's mark is also unclear, but it doesn't look like BTG.
If both dates are the same then it is possible that the parts were assayed separately so that the workshop had a kit of parts to put together in different combinations; i.e. several different bases and tops including single and double vases and candlesticks. The alternative is that somebody had a couple of damaged vases and put the good bits together.
