Hi,
I have a candlestick that seems to be made by Jean Godet. The problem is that Jean Godet died in 1796 and the Berlin hallmark, "H", is that used from 1803 to 1817.
Which one is stamped first: the hallmark or the maker mark?
Could be the candlestick be made by Jean Godet and the hallmark stamped after his death? Or could the Jean Godet´s mark continued to be used after his death for a while by his son who used a different mark?
Any help would be welcome!!!!
Best regards,
Marcondes

Godet´s candlestick
Re: Godet´s candlestick
Hello, actually that was not Godet`s personal mark but that of the workshop, which existed well into the 20ieth century. The order of stamping was defined by local regulations, usually the maker struck first. Best wishes, Bahner
