Anders Andersen materials question

Post by Turba »

I've seen Anders Andersen's mark and "Denmark" on many pieces for sale on auction sites. If the piece is not marked 925S, should I assume the material is pewter? Or is the piece still silver by virtue of the A.A. and Denmark stamped on the piece?

Many of the sellers list the A.A. Denmark jewelry as pewter. But this website says the Danish jewelry makers used silver.

Thank you.

Below are a few images/examples to illustrate my question above. All are marked A.A. and Denmark. The sellers say pewter. But

Hi ~ welcome to the forums. If you are referring to the 1960s-70s era pewter jewelry found on the internet identified as made by Anders Andersen, any attribution to that maker is extremely unlikely - the mark is actually 'Ã….A. DENMARK' and would not be used by anyone named 'Anders', the 'Ã…' (ring above A) is used in place of 'Aa'. Danish silver would have some indicator that it is indeed solid silver - assay marks and/or numeric fineness, or sometimes 'Sterling' on .925 fineness.

Thanks Cheryl.

To clarify, if the Danish jewelry does not contain a materials mark, it is not silver correct?

So who is actually 'Ã….A. DENMARK'?

Thanks.
