19thc.(?) silver spectacles

Post by WTS »

Hello:

I am trying to find out any information on a pair of silver-framed spectacles I purchased a few years ago. They are of the 'double-D' type (D-shaped rims with hinged side panels), with plain green lenses and slider temples. The maker's mark is roughly as follows:

CHANDLE
E.DARROW
N.Y

I have tried looking the maker up in various sources; but the nearest I have come is a mention of a N.Y City firm, 'Chandler & Darrow', active around the middle of the 19th century (no mark pictured); and I do find mention of some silversmiths named Chandlee; but none in the N.Y. area.

I wonder if any other forum members can explain the discrepancy in names.

Yours,
