Old 4.5 inch spoon

Post by Lynnette247 »

Hello,
I hope I am in the correct section to possibly get some answers for my spoon. I have a small spoon that I have researched like crazy and can't find the hallmark that matches. I found that it is from J.M. van kempsen & Son. It has a VK symbol on the back with a crescent moon on the right side. I have found many hallmarks but none that are in the same style as mine. There is an additional hallmark above it that represents a sword of some sort. i have checked the internet, local antique shop, and local library with no help. Does anyone have any ideas or more information on this spoon? I have added URL's for you to see the photo. Thank you so much for allowing me to ask this question.

Hi Lynnette,

Welcome to the forum for the sword mark see:

For the maker's mark, I believe it not to be for Fa. J. M. van Kempen & Zonen but most probably for; Ch.H. van Kempen, registered in 's-Gravenhage for only one year 1924-1925. His mark in 'fat' letter; VK with a little horn, not a crecent moon.
For more information about van Kempen & Zonen and used maker's marks see:
