Moscow Antique Cigarette Case. Unknown maker

Post by Shofner303 »

Recently acquired this heavy and ornate cigarette case with Russian marks. Using the database on this site I learned the triangle to the left of the face on the Kokoshnik mark means it is probably from Moscow ranging from 1908-1926. I could not however find a match to the makers mark. I checked both the Cryillic and Latin databases with no luck. Does anyone have any information on who might have made this piece? Thanks in advance

Hi -
the maker ДН (lat. DN) is the wellknown silverfactory of Nikolajev, Dmitrij Iwanowitsch in Moscow.

Sorry, but a minor correction. His name name is Dimitry Nikolaievich Nikolayev (Дмитрий Николаевич Николаев)

Yes and so we read: Nikolayev, Dimitry Nikolaievich, owner of a silver factory in Moscow in the 2nd part of the 19th century. In 1897 worked in the factory 8 workers and 10 boys (=apprentices). Goods were manufactured to the amount of 10.000 roubles....

Dear Zolotnik. Please read what you wrote yourself. See below. Nikolayev's patronymic name is Nikolaievich and not Iwanowitsch. That is what I'm trying to say only and nothing else!

Thank you all for the information and Zolotnik that is a very impressive case you have!

Does anyone recognize the picture on the front of the case of the lady being grabbed by the man/soldier? I imagine it is not an original artwork but perhaps a copy of a famous painting? Only a guess though.
