Silver buckle, please identify maker.

Post by murena »

Hello,
I have silver buckle marked "800" and "Geschüzt". It is probably made in Germany, but I don't understand the maker hallmark. Please help me with the maker and if possible what period it is.
Thank you.

Hi,

I believe the casted marks read; 800 (fineness) followed by the mark, in vertical position, of the Crescent Moon and Crown and Geschützt (Geschutz, Geschuetz), German mark covering a proprietary copyright, used until 1883. (Geschützt = 'Protected' in English). The mark was also used in Austria.
I believe I cannot see a maker/retailer’s mark.

I can't really identify the maker's mark either, but it could be Gebrüder Falk of Pforzheim. I wasn't able to find the maker on the homepage, but I've got a picture on my own (see below).

Hm, or maybe it's Carl Forster & Graf of Pforzheim?
