Help in Identification of silver hallmark

Post by doverrover »

Hi there.I'm new to this forum so please excuse in errors in posting. My question is this.I have some silver spoons. They carry all the expected hallmarks except a "city"mark,ie anchor, crown, leopard etc.I can date them, roughly,to circa 1800 by George's head and a process of elimination of the date letter style. Is this unusual and is there a reason for this? Thanks in advance.PS the lion is present and they are SS.

Hi,

Well, you need to give it a try. The advantage of the preview system is that you can have as many attempts as you like, and then when you're happy that you've cracked it, that's when you push the submit button. Give it a try, what have you got to lose?

Thanks Trev but assure you i can't.Your prompt reply is much appreciated.I have scanned previous posts and noticed no city mark is not unusual.I shall go down the tried and tested method of the Mark1 eyeball and the printed page.A lot slower i know but i will get there in the end. Many thanks anyway....Steve.
