Unknown mark - Large Crown Stars on Either Side and 3 Letter

Post by clinteri »

Hello

I recently bought a couple of pieces of silver and I have not been able to find any information about the hallmarks on this one piece. Could someone help please? Thanks in advance... it is driving me crazy =)

Large Crown and a star on both sides and then 3 letters below - CSO maybe

At a guess, American silverplate, but the marks are not clear enough.

I found this old message while trying to research a large silverplated urn or samovar.

From what I can see of the marking, which is very faint, there is a 3 pointed crown, with each point tip in the shape of a V. There is a ball between each tip, and along the rim of the crown there is a band, with three balls in it. There's a star on either side of the crown, and beneath it are the letters; "CSQ" to my eye, or "CSO" or maybe it is "CS" and the third character is a dipper or cup? I sketched out the mark as best I could, and I can upload that sketch here, as well, if it might help in identification.

We have no other pieces like this one. It's undoubtedly American, post 1900, probably purchased in Chicago, or maybe came from Pennsylvania.

this may be the closest I've found to what this might be:
CROWN SILVER CO. INC - Brookline, MA
active c. 1935/1950

on this page:
http://www.silvercollection.it/AMERICAN ... KSCDE.html
about two thirds of the way down the page.

Now I'll have to figure out if there's any more info out there on this company!

Adding that the letters below the crown are "CSC", for searching purposes, if someone else runs into this particular mark and set of initials.
