Help with an unknown City Mark please.

I was given a rectangular locket and was interested in the silver marks on it but when I looked into them I became unstuck at the city mark, the only thing I could find that was similar was a dutch marking. It looks like an arrow head on it's side with a cross inside. The makers mark looks like V.I.P and the date mark is a 'P' but until i have a city mark I don't know what year it was made

Hi Soffia,

Welcome to the Forum.

That would be the mark of the Chester Assay Office. See: http://www.925-1000.com/dlChester.html#M

A clearer image of the marks may reveal the identity of the maker for sure, but it is likely to be W.J.P. for William John Pellow, 31, Hylton Street, Birmingham. The date of assay would be 1898.

Many Thanks dog nose. I have searched endlessly for any examples of this now that I know what I am looking at I can see, well a very worn example of one.
