Continental Silver Hallmark?

Post by Tokkoloshe »

Could someone please help identify the attached hallmark. It's on a set of 5 teaspoons. My client inherited them from an aunt in Rendsburg, Germany.
Thanks

Hello Tokkoloshe,
the mark besides the name "JEPTHIEN" ? is the mark of Splieth, Itzehoe in Schleswig-Holsten, which is not far from Rendsburg.
See German marks after 1886.

Hermann Spliedt (not Splieth) in Itzehoe founded 1857.

Hello Tokkoloshe,

the mark "LOEPTHIEN" is from Georg Wilhelm Loepthien from Rendsburg, born ca. 1843 ("G.W. Loepthin, ...Gold- & Silberwaaren- versilberte Tafelgeräthe", Zeitzschel p. 261.). He was a retailer in Rendsburg.

Kind regards,
Ringo
