Hi All,
I am trying to identify the maker on a large Austrian coin silver tea tray from somewhere between 1872-1922. The tray features both the Diana mark, and a makers mark of "ES" inside a horizontal rectangle with vertical notches in upper and lower part. I found this other thread to be quite helpful in determining this: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19856
Still left wondering who made it, and if the date could be narrowed down. The other thread mentioned a reference book by Waltraud Neuwirth called Vienna Makers 1867-1922, but I unfortunately do not have access to it. Is there anyone out there who might be familiar with this mark or have access to the Neuwirth's book or something similar?
The first set of hallmarks are on the front side of the tray (center edge), but it also has two other tiny "A" hallmarks on the backside of the handle. The marks are separate, but side by side, and both appear to have a small line/mark under them. Could these be import marks? Why would there be two of the same?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Cristina

Re: Please help identify Vienna Maker ES (1867-1922)
Hello Cristina!
The maker is probably Eduard Steiter. (Waltraud Neuwirth: Wiener gold- und silberschmiede und ihre punzen 1867-1922; L-Z page 231)
I cannot explain why punched the assay office mark twice.
Best regards!
Krisztián

Thank you, I believe you are right as another member sent me a private message quoting the same reference.
I truly appreciate the help and hope that other members will find the information useful as well!

I thought rather than start a new post, I would try to ask the question not answered here.
Why is the A struck twice, a friend asked me, says he sees it on medals quite often.
Any ideas?

I corresponded with the same friend again, he says he actually has seen the a mark struck two and even three times. These are on small pieces, it seems odd someone would do this without there being some reason. Again we are talking about the Vienna A mark.
