Marked DOUBLE HJW Spider on Web & Floral Mesh Bracelet

Post by silversearcherz »

This appears to be marked DOUBLE and then HJW in square also on clasp it is marked Patent.
Mark is a bit weak and I looked more closely with a loop and I know the H is correct but not sure about J and last letter is flattened or filled in and looks like a W.
Unsure of estimated age and maker. It has gold plated mesh inside the bracelet with pieces added on outside made like a wristwatch band.
It has been awhile since I posted so I just gave a link to photos on flickr .

Hi,

Doublé a term often used in Belgium and in The Netherlands for "gold plated" or rolled gold. Normally the base material is copper/brass or a low grade silver alloy, unless it has any silver or conjoined gold/silver hallmarks.
Doublé or gold-filled jewelry, also known as "rolled gold" or "rolled gold plate" is composed of a solid layer of gold bonded with heat and pressure to a base metal. Some high quality gold-filled pieces have the same appearance as 14 karat (58%) gold.
Gold plated by chemical or electrochemical plating = 1 - 4 micron layer of fine gold and Doublé or rolled gold minimum layer 5 micron of fine gold.

Doublé French word for doubled, 2nd layer: metal (silver/brass) with a a lining of gold.

Doublé minimum gold thickness 5 micron
Goldvlice-doublé = a layer of 16 karat gold.
American doublé = 10 tot 12 gram fine gold (22-24 karat) per 1 kg product
Union doublé = 40-50 gram fine gold per kg product
Gold plaqué = a gold layer minimum thickness of 8 micron thick

I believe your bracelet to be made in Belgium.

Oel.
