Wm. Day, has joined the store force of the Hess & Culbertson Jewelry Co., where he will be in charge of all the interior and window decorating and displays. He has had a wide experience in this line.

The annual picnic and outing of the employes of the Hess & Culbertson Jewelry Co. will be held Saturday afternoon and evening, July 25. It will be held at Tower Grove Park, one of the municipal playgrounds, and employes and their families and friends are expected to be on hand in large numbers. A program of athletic events is in the making and various forms of amusements will be enjoyed.

Bill Schumaker, salesman and department manager of the Hess & Culbertson Jewelry Co., 9th and Olive Sts., is off for a rest and plans to be away several weeks.

Arnold Appel, in charge of the clock department of the Hess & Culbertson Jewelry Co., died recently after a brief illness. He was a director of the company having been connected with it for the past 25 years and was well known in the local trade. He is survived by a widow, one son and one daughter.

The Hess & Culbertson Jewelry Co. will give the second of its series of salesmen’s dinners about the middle of March at the Mercantile Club, Some particular branch of the business will be taken up and discussed by officers of the firm.

The Hess & Culbertson Jewelry Co., has been awarded the contract to furnish 65 cups and shields to be contended for at the Y. M. C. A. field day, to be held on the Christian Brothers’ Campus, on Oct. 1. The trophies, a handsome lot, are now on exhibition at the Hess store, 7th and St. Charles Sts.

The capital stock of the Hess & Culbertson Jewelry Co., 6th and Locust Sts., was increased from $65,000 to $140,000 by unanimous vote of the stockholders at a special meeting, Wednesday. The increase, which is fully paid, represents the cash surplus of the company, and according to President George J. Hess, the step was made to give several old employes an opportunity of becoming stockholders. These men thus become stockholders : Leo Vogt, E. J. Helmerich and Arnold Apple. The following stockholders were at the meeting : George J. Hess, Stephen D. Culbertson, Samuel E. Bamber, and Miss Elizabeth Idler.
