Can you help me identify a Chester maker WA of around 1900

Post by EnT »

Hello forum,

I recently bought a vinaigrette which has marks for Chester and 1900-1901. The style is right for the date I think and I would like to know who the maker 'WA' is please. Can anyone help?

Above are the marks on the underside of the piece on the outside. Although they're worn they do seem to show the Chester guild mark.

Above are those on the inside of the lid which show the date letter more clearly.

Thank you in advance,

Hello EnT,

William Aitken of Vyse Street Birmingham registered an oval mark with a central pellet at Chester in 1899.

The middle part of the mark on your item is worn and that's where the pellet would be.

You might see some remains of it if you have another look?

Thank you.

Yes, viewed with the light at a slightly different angle the pip is there.

I'm most grateful for your help.
