Scottish silver mark possibly provincial

Post by allan »

I bought this spoon, and have tried in vain to identify the maker or place of manufacture. I have looked in jackson's revised (Ian Pickford) and the new but rubbish "A Directory of Scottish Provincial Silversmiths and Their Marks" (Did anyone else pay 18 quid for this only to find there were no facsimilies of the actual marks?) A friend has checked the book on Elgin and Moray, so I don't know where else to look. Anyway, the picture is posted at
http://www.theantiquetrail.com/images/Mc0.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There are two rectangular cartouches, the writing is in script and read Mc and BA. It is a dinner spoon and is in oar pattern (a Scottish variant of fiddle pattern without shoulders). Hope someone can help. I would value suggestions af any literature i might be able to get hold of too.
Thanks
Allan

Hi,
Can't find the "Mc", but I've seen the "BA" mark with known maker's marks from Banff.
