An odd cup !

Post by kirsch »

Inherited this from my grandparents. Seems to be silver plate repoussée metal( pewter?). I can't think what it was used for, seeem unlikely for drinking out of. Don't think it's English, dutch or german perhaps ?
here are some pictures :

Looks cast rather than repousse and does look like it might be pewter with perhaps a stainless liner - any marks? Guessing from the shape and decorative motif that it's an egg cup.

Never occurred to me to give the measurements! I also didn't mention the brass inner cup.

5.5cm. (2.17 inch) in diameter and 6cm. (2.36 inch) high. Weighs 120g.
Would that not be too big for an egg cup ? my eggs are certainly not big enough.

Having a closer look there's copper showing through the silver. No hallmarks however that I can see.
