WBS in a diamond WHAT IS IT PLEASE? Cairngorm

Post by jenznz56 »

Recently added two amethyst Cairngorm to my collection. One has this mark I cant find info on - a WBS in a diamond shape. The rest of the Hallmarks were simple to establish and are:

Diamond with WBS inside then three squares, first square has a thistle in it, second has a castle, third a letter f.

Here is a pic of the WBS brooch - but not of the marks - my camera wont focus so close - I will borrow one soon and see if I can upload the marks here, sorry to make my query tricky in the meantime.

The second Cairngorm I believe is a token between lovers to ensure safety while parted. It has a stamp on back saying MIZPAH with two hearts joined with an arrow.

Does anyone have any other info on this one?

On either - are the stones likely to be coloured paste or amethyst?

Both came from estate sales from ladies in NZ born early 1900s

Many thanks Jenny - a fledgling silver collector
