Information wanted on pair of David Andersen spoons

I bought these in Sweden in 1985. I am curious as to their history. The shop owner said they were probably made for royalty.

Fairly common design for David-Andersen, I have the same spoon in demitasse size and two others of the same basic form with plique-a-jour rather than champleve enamel work, and yet another with a hand painted flower. Can't see any indication that they would be for royalty, or why the seller would suggest it. Very nice to have the original box, though! I did some checking on the information you supplied cheryl and it looks like they were made prior to 1925... Christiania became Oslo in that year.

The name on the box is David Andersen (no hyphen) so again I'm thinking more like prior to 1901 since that's the year he died and his son took over after that.

Would cleaning them have an adverse effect on them? I'd like to see what they look like cleaned up.

Not sure that I'd date by the trademark on the box, doubtful that they disposed of all the presentation boxes when the name was hyphenated. That said, they do most likely date to right around the turn of century, give or take a few years either way. As for polishing, I'd use a gentle polish, but they do appear to have worn gold wash over a satin finish, so they might turn out a bit different than you'd expect - the spoons in the pic are freshly polished, looks like about the same wear on the piece in your design, the spoon next to it has no gold wash, and the third has fairly intact gilding.

Thanks. The third spoon is beautiful. I will be careful when I clean my spoons. They do have a gold wash.
