Need help-gold ring marked .W.W. London

Post by RHGNOLE »

Need help in identifying maker and year made on my greatgrandfather's gold ring.

All boxes are cut corner squares and contain:

.W.W. (maker's mark)
Crown
Leopard head - uncrowned
lower case script i (stamped sideways)

(admin photo edit - image too large - insert as link or thumbnail only - see Posting Requirements)

Thanks!

Hi
I would put the 18carat ring as dated 1964/1965. Cannot help with the maker.

According to the historic hallmarks for London this looks more like 1904. However, I am not sure.

a lower case "r" with in an italic font would make it 1972/73.

Sorry, but I can only see an i for 1964/5 leaning to the right with the dot over it. I cannot see an r on my screen

Hi,

I must admit when I first looked I thought it was a 't', but upon further inspection I am fully in agreement with Larkfield, it's 'i', 1964/1965.

Thanks for all of your input. Any ideas on the hallmark maker (.W.W.)?

Having just done some more research, I realise it could be a number of different makers! It's important how the ww is stamped. I suggest you look at silvermakersmarks.co.uk, it will show the different ww stamps and the gold maker it's attached to. I hope this helps.
