Help Identifying hallmarks, date, maker.

Post by JeffL »

I was looking for some help identifying this item.

The makers mark on the bottom is a pitcher in a circle. On the left is the letter “M”. On the right is the letter “U”. Underneath the pitcher is the letter “Q”. Located in the center of the pitcher are crossed arrows pointing down with a line thru the middle.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Is there anything that indicates it to be gold?

This belonged to my parents. My mom commented on how it didn’t tarnish like her other silver. She supposedly had it tested and was told the inside was yellow gold and the outside was white gold. I am planning on having that verified.

Hello Jeff,

If the colours in the pictures are accurate it doesn't look like gold. Occasionally white gold is rhodium plated, which can give a grey look. But without actually picking up this goblet to feel the weight, I would suggest that it might be stainless steel. The spinning marks on the base also suggest that it is not gold but a less expensive and harder alternative.

Helo, MUQ is Metallwarenfabrik Union in Quedlinburg, Germany. They mostly made nickel- and chromiumplated tableware, little silverplate, no silver (at least I am not aware of it). This could be nickelplated. Hard to tell from a pic. Best wishes, Bahner
