Hi,

Your spoon is Dutch made for export (the key) by J. M. van Kempen & Zn. The pattern is called Parelrand in Dutch. The sword is for small items.

Have a look at

There is an example of the other mark used by the company (crescent over VK). The mark on your spoon is actually "VK crescent".

the sword was not clear for me

it is 833 silver - but how old it is (1853-1953)?
I cant see a difference between the swords

Hi,

It stands to be corrected, but I found a note with this mark "VK crescent", saying the mentioned company, Voorschoten and that this particular mark was used between 1858-1924.

It is extremely hard to see the differences between the two earliest sword-marks (1st 14 January 1814 --1 januari 1906, 2nd 1 January 1906--1 September 1953). It makes it really tricky in this case, where the export and re-export keys are struck over the mark.

Take a look at the examples given here on the site and if you want to see and compare more marks search for sword in Dutch (zwaardje) and silver marks (zilverkeuren).

It is right - in my mark the VK is not together - but it the same maker.

Now I think I have an answer on this question.
