help with A Keim, Phila

Post by bubba »

Does anyone know if A Keim, Phila. is a retailer or maker of this Civil War era ladle? The engine turned design is so similar to James Watts and the bright cutting is like Geo. Sharp. All input would be appreciated.

TIA

Alexander Keim, born in 1817, was a silversmith in Philadelphia. Brix list's his working dates as 1840-1850, but he still listed himself a silversmith in the 1880 census. He was a partner in (?) Butler, (George) Wise & Keim in 1842 and Butler & Keim in 1843-1845.
