Hi all,
i have some questions about marks on this silver tea glass holder. I have identified Eduard Dannenberg's (Jelgava) mark and city mark from Riga.
RM, i thing is Richard Muller's (Riga) mark, its true?
But, i dont know what is "VIII". It is something like "tremolierstrich"? I know, in Austria, tremolierstrich was in use until c. 1806, but in Litva it is used even in 1887? And, why it form a number 8?
Also i dont know why there are two maker marks - different makers in different cities.
And, finally, know somebody this assayer?
Thank you very much for you assistance and sorry for my english (i am from Czech republic)
Best regards
M.

tea glass holder from Riga
Hi -
Eduard Dannenberg ( 1883-1899) from Mitau was registered in Riga at the assay office (Probehof) from 1883-1899 as elderman (Ältermann). He was acceptet to the office in 1863.
The assay master (Probemeister) ДЛ, known for the years 1884, 1885, 1886 and 1887 is unfortunately not identified.
The maker RM is Richard Müller (1873-1906), registered as master in Riga since 1873 and one of the best known Latvian silversmiths. On February 8th 1906 he fabricated the goblet for the St. Johannis-guilde.
84 (zolotniki), the ex Russian silver standard for 875/1000, still used by Latvia
VIII , probably the 8th piece out of.....?Marking of some guilde, corporation, etc.(inventory number).
Interesting piece with a history to tell!
