Hi,

Your piece was made by Sanders & Mackenzie and assayed at Birmingham in 1929.

See: http://www.925-1000.com/dlBirmingham6.html#M" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I should think that it originally had four ivory plaques marked with Spades, Clubs, Diamonds and Hearts to indicate trumps when playing bridge.

Trev.
