Is this maker's mark Hyppolite Thomas?

Post by 37jrm »

Hi. I have a set of 12 of these French oyster forks. Minerva and 1 mark/maker's mark on both the fork head and handles. The maker's mark appears to be that of Hyppolite Thomas, but I'm not 100% sure. It is very similar, but I can't positively identify an 'H' - it looks more like an 'N'.
Does anyone have any suggestion please? I'd be most grateful.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure. Here's another picture for comparison.

Hippolyte Thomas registered his mark on May 6, 1845.
Succeeded by Thomas & Henin who entered a mark on October 4 1861.

Thanks Pat. your photos are quite clearly letters H and T, and certainly in one it shows a 'rosebud' above a star. On mine, it's indistinct, and I'm wondering if there's another maker with initials N and T, although I've not been able to find one. I'll see if anyone else comes along on the forum who might be able to throw some light on this. Any idea where else I might get some information?

Jonathan.
