Hi I have found an old gold ring with the hallmarks SH 9 .375 (anchor) C
It also has a split where it used to be soldered.
I've been told it was made by Samuel Hope Co. in Birmingham U.K. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Aaron
Help with a old gold ring...
Re: Help with a old gold ring...
Hi Aaron,
Welcome to the Forum.
The marks look good for Samuel Hope, a noted wedding ring manufacturer of 126, Vyse Street, Birmingham. It is 9ct. gold and was assayed at the Birmingham Assay Office. The date of assay is a little more difficult, as very similar 'c' s were used in 1902 and 1927 and it would require a very high detailed image to discern between the two dates.
Samuel Hope registered at the London, Birmingham and Chester assay offices.

Hello Trev,
I am working on a better picture for you. I cannot seem to find the gold U.K. hallmark charts for jewelry. Can you send me the link please?
Thank you for your help so far.

Hi Aaron,
That's much clearer. I make that 1902.
Samuel Hope - Birmingham - 1932

Re: Help with a old gold ring...
Hi there, I have just been given a very sentimental piece of jewellery. My Nan's wedding band (she passed away Feb 4 2012 at aged 82). Nan married my late Pop in 1952 in Bristol, Pop passed away in 1991. The wedding band also has the stamp of SH 9 375, Anchor, Y (I'm sure it's a Y).
Any other details as to it's history would be appreciated. I am enjoying researching this.
Kindest regards
Amy (Sydney, Australia)

Hi Vince,
Welcome to the Forum.
I think you are confusing the cartouches that were used on silver, as against those that were used on gold.
