Makers Mark S.J.

Post by copperpotuk »

Hi all, has anyone the knowledge to identify the following makers mark?

I have a heavy cigarette case of which is marked 925 S.J.

I understand it's sterling silver, but have no idea of the maker of the age, any help would be great, thanks for any replies.

you dont read marks correct - 925 S - should be read as 1 mark, 925 is sterling and S =silver. So 925S is the silvermark.
Then something else - and I cannot read that. It is not a single letter but two letters in combination.

From this I would say Norway, but a guess at present. Try to reas the two letters or try to take a better picture. Also picture of item could help confirm origin (Norway?)

I would tend to disagree with Hose_dk. The mark appears to be as initially described. I doubt this piece will prove ascribable without further information.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures, here are some more and some of the case, further to my previous, where the 925S and mark are, to the right are the lightly indented letters JT (should come up on the picture) also in the inside corner is a number 2, weight is about 136 grams and it's quite big at 13cm by 8cm, hope this assists with naming the maker.

marks are in my oppinion 925S
and JT or JF - as it says JT outside the mark I would suggest JT

JF could be Jørgen Frandsen - Vejle 1948 - 1973
JT could be 1 of 3 - or rather one of the two active in the 50ties
J.T.................................Johs. Torlyk - Copenhagen 1956 - 1968
J.T.................................Jørgen Thomasen - Vedbæk 1973 - ?
J.T.................................Johannes Eli M.Torlyk - Copenhagen 1944 - 1954

I dont know their names - or marks, but the graficcould be Danish as I suggest here.
