Sugar tongs makers mark DC. Help needed?

Post by alexquinn8 »

Hello there.

I have a pair of sugar tongs with only the lion passant and the mark DC.I think they are Georgian. I'm struggling to identify the maker.

Can anybody help?

Hi Alex,

That would be David Crawford of The Side, Newcastle. A rare maker who died on the 14th April 1825, aged 86 years. His working life was from 1768 (first assay) until early in 1784 (last assay).
