Egyptian Pendant - Is it gold?

Post by castaway22 »

I think I posted in the wrong place a few minutes ago so I am posting here to cover my bases. I purchased this pin as 800 silver but it looks like gold to me.
Can anyone tell by the marks if it is gold and/or who made it? I would really appreciate any information you can give me.
Thanks

Donna

Thank you, Do you recognize the initials? Think it is JP or JS script in a hexagon?

This is the brooch that i thought is similar to yours in composition.

The only thing I am wondering is that there is no sign of silver showing through anywhere on the pendant, even on the bail, where it rubs against the pin, or inside the bail where a chain would rub. Also, there is no sign of tarnish anywhere.

Hi Donna, my brooch also looked like it was gold with no rubbing marks, but i put it up for discussion and everyone that viewed it said it was silver gilt. Even though yours looks crisper and more defined than mine i still say that it's silver gilt. A lot of good quality gilt jewellery has a very heavy coating of fine gold. Yours is a very nice brooch by the way ... Alan .. ;-)
