is this Horace Woodward please?

Post by sheilaj »

Good afternoon. I am researching the marks on a small piece of silver. I have the fact that it is sterling, Birmingham and 1853 but the makers mark has me puzzled.

I think it might be Horace woodward but its not quite the same as the example shown on the list and I can't quite read the letters. Many thanks for your help.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

That is the mark of William Hutton & Sons. Assay date is 1929.

Thank you! I must admit I was quite surprised by the date letter I thought it was as its quite a 1920's design. Its on a small cup which is going as a gift to the local horticultural society to use as a trophy. The marks aren't good so it will be nice to give it with the information.
