This is my first post and I'm trying to identify what country this silver brooch is from. It has the hallmark E-M and 830S. It looks to be Norwegian, but it looks like it also might be from another country...possibly Sweden, Denmark, Finland or Russia...? I've consulted my Norwegian silver marks book but was unable to find the mark. Can anyone help me?

Need Help w/Maker's Mark on Poss. Scandinavian Brooch
What country is this broch from?
I haven't gotten a response yet so I thought maybe I'd try a different approach and ask if anyone has any inkling of what country this brooch might be from? It looks like Norway sølje to me but just don't know for sure since I can't verify the mark. I know other countries make pieces similar to Norwegian sølje, such as Sweden, Denmark, Finland (kind of) and Russia. Does anyone have any opinions? Any help would be much appreciated!
Re: What country is this broch from?
I found the Danish marks of E&M (Eiler & Marløe 1920-1967) and E.M. (Erik Morild Møller-Randers 1971-?) on this site

Does anyone know if 'my' mark of E-M could be from any of these 2 companies? (The most likely being the first company since this brooch looks quite old.)

This is Carol Lynn...I noticed this post about your other brooch. Your brooch has seven "dashes" on the back. In my research on marks, I found information that talks about "seven dots" on the mark. Here is what it said: "The crown-shaped mark is for Theodor Olsens Eftf, of Bergen, Norway. Date usage unknown (possibly 1965?). There are a few variations of this mark. The seven dots in the circle represent the seven hills that surround the city of Bergen - they are also found on the old Bergen city silver mark, itself taken from the municipal arms." This is not your mark but perhaps this might be a clue! Here is where I found this: http://mysaga.net/vikingsalts/Marks/marks.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hi Carol Lynn--Thank you for your post. Those dashes DID have me befuddled and you're right in that the 7 dashes possibly being linked to Bergen. That would be cool if that's the case and great detective work by you. I'm still looking for an answer & I'll post it here if I find anything out. Thanks again!Carol Lynn wrote:This is Carol Lynn...I noticed this post about your other brooch. Your brooch has seven "dashes" on the back. If this is from Bergan, Norway then it could be for Einar Modahl who was born in Bergan and worked for Marius Hammer as a journeyman. He moved to Oslo around 1920 where he worked and then established his workshop. See also http://www.925-1000.com/no_modahl.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for his mark after 1931.

Thanks Swedenorway. That's a good clue--I'll keep that in mind as I continue my search for my mark!
Re: Need Help w/Maker's Mark on Poss. Scandinavian Brooch
Your pin (or sølje) is older than Einar Modahl. He established in 1931 and used his registrated mark.
Your pin is typical for the pins that where made for the people in town, not for the folkcostumes. They where made ca 1890 - 1920.
I think that it could been made by Einar Marthinsen in Tønsberg, establ. 1912. He was making a lot of silver to the folkcostumes, so it could be.
