Centerpiece for sweets or condiments; ``Konfekt Aufsatz`` It stands 5.5 inches tall and 6.5 inches wide across the top. Repousse décor is consistent with Biedermeier ``Rose silver`` ("Wiener Rosensilber"), very popular at the time. Mark for ``13`` loth of the Pest guild and year1841, as well as ``Pesth`` and maker`s mark ``GS``?
As for utilitarian aspect — it seems reasonable to follow Austrian description of those silver items as ``Schale - Konfekt Aufsatz``,i.e. centerpiece for sweets.
N.B. The name "Budapest" is the composition of the city names "Buda" and "Pest", since they were united to become a single city as late as 1873.The Coat of arms of Pest contains a castle with one tower. As for Buda hallmarks, there is some confusion with them, although the guild is older than Pest guild. It needs further research.

Hello!
The makers mark is GG, means Georgius Goszmann (Goszmann György)

Thanks a lot! I was thinking of ``GG`` but the second letter is different. We stay in touch;I will post a 13 loth mark with OB - I think it should be Obuda.I am aware Budapest coat of arms consists of Pest one tower and Buda three towers.Do you have any information of Buda guild mark?

Hello!
I'm sure that it's GG. I've seen it lots of times before, and it's also in the reference book. (P. Brestyánszky Ilona: Pest-budai ötvösség)
Probably you're right regarding Óbuda, but i'd more secure if a had a chance to see it.
The guildmark of Buda can be found in the mentioned book, but you're right, it usually pictures a tower.
Regards!
