the basilisk on french sugar-bowl ?

Post by panderosa »

Hi,

I have a silver sugar-bowl. I cannot guess how old it is and what is its origin place.
Could you please look at the photos in below URL.

Looking at the head of Minerwa it seems to be created after May 1838.

Your silver sugar bowl was made by Eugène Lefebvre working at 14 bis, rue de Minimes in Paris. The mark is initials EL on a horizontal axis on either side of a swan pierced with an arrow. Lefebvre entered his mark on 9 March 1896; it was erased on 11 June 1910. Hope this helps to identify the maker and age of your bowl.
