Is this an Overstrike?

Hello All,
I have a teaspoon by Barber, Cattle & North that seems to have an extra mark of the letter H.





I thought it could be an overstrike but it looks like a separate mark. Any input would be appreciated. It is one of a pair both have identical marks.

Hi Rhodri,

The additional letters sometimes found on York silver are somewhat of a mystery. They may possibly relate to the particular person responsible at the assay office, but this is speculation.

The letters previously noted are:

E - 1800-6 and 1855
W - 1808 - 1810
B - 1817, 1818, 1821 and 1823
S - 1813, 1818-20, 1831, 1836, 1837
H - 1826-28

Hello, looking for info for another post, I saw this post and remembered an image I had saved some years ago. This York spoon has an extra "W" and the maker was Robert Cattle and James Barber. The hallmark is for 1808, a date quoted earlier by Dognose. This mark may or may not have been shown elsewhere.
