Wade & Butcher

Post by JLH67 »

Hi,
Does anyone have some information about silverware from the manufacturer Wade and Butcher?
In my family there is a set of silver that consists of 198 pieces; breakfast sets dinner sets and all the pieces that comes to it.
The only information about Wade and Butcher I can find on the internet is about razors.
I hope there's anyone who can help me here.
Thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

To my knowledge, Wade & Butcher were cutlers only, and not manufacturers of silverware, but I stand to be corrected.

It would be good to see some images of the marks and items.

Hi Trev,

Thanks for your reply. On a dutch forum I got some information that the marks are dutch, Gerritsen & van Kempen.
The blades of the knife show the trademark of Wade and Butcher. It appears that at sometime the original blades were replaced by Wade and Butcher blades, or Gerritsen & van Kempen used Wade and Butcher blades.
Anyway I think it is not a Wade and Butcher subject anymore...

Aaahh.... Now it makes sense.

English, German, and Swedish blades were sold to every country on the planet.

For more info on Dutch marks see: Dutch Hallmarks and Dutch silver hallmarks and date letter chart 1814-2009

For more on Gerritsen & van Kempen n.v. Zeist
