Ring marked with a Unicorn Head and 13 ... Origin?

Post by jon_mainz »

Could somebody help me identify the origin of a ring with a unicorn head and the number thirteen (with four dots/points on the top of the number) stamped on the outside of the ring (as opposed to the "usual" which are stamped on the inside of the ring).

I checked the german marks section of this website, and I now know the meaning of 13 (Loth System). However, the unicorn head is not listed in the citations and I was wondering if anybody knows anything about it. The position of the hallmarks is also very curious, since it is not inside the ring. Could this mean anything?

I acquired the ring in Switzerland, but the unicorn head does not appear in the hallmarks listed for Switzerland.

I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

Jonathan
