I was given a rectangular locket and was interested in the silver marks on it but when I looked into them I became unstuck at the city mark, the only thing I could find that was similar was a dutch marking. It looks like an arrow head on it's side with a cross inside. The makers mark looks like V.I.P and the date mark is a 'P' but until i have a city mark I don't know what year it was made
Please see above the link to the photos I have of it.
Many Thanks in advance.
Help with an unknown City Mark please.
Re: Help with an unknown City Mark please.
Hi Soffia,
Welcome to the Forum.
That would be the mark of the Chester Assay Office. See: http://www.925-1000.com/dlChester.html#M
A clearer image of the marks may reveal the identity of the maker for sure, but it is likely to be W.J.P. for William John Pellow, 31, Hylton Street, Birmingham. The date of assay would be 1898.
