Please help me interpret these marks

Post by jnwall »

This is a communion cup from the early 1600s. I believe the three symbols, left to right, mean the cup was made in 1626, in sterling silver, in London.

I cannot find a match for the image to the extreme right.

Please confirm or revise my reading of the first 3 symbols and help me interpret the 4th symbol.

Many thanks!

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Your image is not the clearest, but the mark appears to be that of F. Terry, a known maker of communion plate.

Thank you. Now, I need to know where his shop was in London. Any ideas? JNW

I'm afraid Heal only records the fact that he was working in London.
