E.P St & Cc Basket - 1900

Post by Vale »

HI all,

Today i bring something i call "cesta" in spanish, I'm not sure if i can literaly translate it as basket as I did. Apologies. Anyway, I know my "cesta" is made in England and agree to RD number, in 1900, but I am lost with the manufacturer. Who is St & Cc ?

I let you with the pics. Thanks again for this opportunity.

Hi Vale,

I have noted this mark before, but have yet to find any source that makes an attribution to the maker.

A post that's worth a bump.

Any new thoughts?

I do not think it is "St. & Co." but "St. & C. Company". They obviously felt a need to add the underlined "t" to distinguish the mark from some other "S & C" firm which may have been operating concurrently. I seem to recall St. (underlined) being sometimes used to abbreviate the Stevens surname (but this mark is not associated with a known Stevens firm).

Might be a defunct retailer name?

Maltby, Stevens & Curtis Company became Watrous in 1896. Possibly related?
