Hello
I bought last year a silver pocket watch. It has a Chester Hallmarks.
Can anyone help me in dating the silver case?
I see letter B on the shield with straight lines, which means 1727,
but letter B on the French-type shield means 1902.
I think that silver watch are from 1902 but the shield does not match that description.
Thank you for any advice
Peter

Apparently this program claimed that "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of [these] image[s]" - so I just made them URL's.

Need help with dating a silver pocket watch case
Re: Need help with dating a silver pocket watch case
Hi Peter,
It will be 1902. There were two different outlines in use at Chester at this time.
The watchcase maker was Thomas Peter Hewitt (The Lancashire Watch Co.Ltd.), Prescot, Lancashire. That particular mark was registered on the 17th May 1899.
