Crossed Swords Hallmark CDL

Post by charlieb911 »

I just joined this site after doing research online to find out whose hallmark is on my pitcher. I inherited an old cut crystal pitcher/ewer (looks like Waterford?) with sterling hinged lid with the hallmark of two crossed swords - C on the left; D on the right; and L under the crossing. I dont' know what country of origin this is either. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Hi Charlie,

That would be 'C' 'D' over 'E', likely the mark is a little worn. The mark is that of Carl Deffner of Esslingen, Germany. Deffner took over his father's business is 1900 and was noted for his excellent designs. The business closed in 1959.
