I have been able to identify a silver plated serving spoon in my possession (I am in Australia.) It is dated at 1848 - 9 May. It has the letter 'R' in the Diamond on the neck at the back of the spoon. However I am having difficulty with researching the maker's marks. There are five images in the mark. The first looks like the letter 'I' but with a bar across the middle and a bar at the top and at the bottom. The second letter is definitely a 'D'. The third is &' and the fourth is an 'S'. The fifth and last letter is the letter 'A' in a circle.
I have no idea where this spoon came from but it has been around for quite a while in various family cutlery drawers. I have managed to scan some good images of the spoon but cannot see where to post these.
Thanks for any assistance and enlightenment.
Cheers
Helen
