John Munns Spoon?

HELLO

Is this small shell back spoon by John Munns of London? It only has 2 hallmarks I pellet M & lion.

I can't give you a definitive answer. The mark is not an exact match to the one Grimwade illustrates for Muns, nor to any other IM in Grimwade. Muns entered his mark as a largeworker, a less likely category for a spoon maker but not impossible. The spoon probably dates from somewhere between the late 1750s and the early 1770s and is probably London made. The mark is probably one from the lost 1738-58 smallworkers register. I would hesitate to plump for Muns without more evidence that he was a spoonmaker.

In the Will of John Muns he was described as a 'silver turner'.
