Hi can anyone help ID this maker and if it is french and what sort of age it might be i can only go on what other items it came with where french .thanks Dave

To me, it looked like the word 'ITALY' above what may be the remains of an Italian hallmark, but it would need a high definition close-up of that lower maybe mark to say for sure.

Trev, I think it’s not right.
Country name ITALY in Italian is written ITALIA. Italian master would not sign his product in English.

Why not? Especially in cities where tourism is very popular, it is quite common to use marks in English. Almost always, however, it is silverplate, if there are no other legal marks.

However M. BUCCELLATI — 20 century, high-tech. Indeed, flows of tourists. Primarily Americans.

In the mid-70s, my grandfather brought back from Paris and gave me a screwdriver, on which was written MADE IN GERMANY. This is understandable - the European Union.

But strainer (silver French) — old (semi old). Where there could take ITALY? Compare the inscription (the second — from Mario Buccellati):


The first inscription - low-tech. Surface - clumsy. Maybe the master has bitten her? With anger? ;)

If there really is written ITALY, then it is not an old tea strainer, but modern, probably Chinese fake. Why not? Chinese - very talented people! But with the stamps they are not all right.

By the way, you, AG2012, right. And Trev too: after the 2nd World War some Italian masters wrote on products MADE IN ITALY. For example, Gino Peruzzi of Florence:


But in respect of the French tea strainer, I still believe that if there is written ITALY, then it is a fake!

Thank for the ideas on the strainer .i have done an acid test and shows it silver . the idea its a fake i dont think it is .as i bought several teams in the same lot at auction that all came from the same owner all of which turn out are genuine. Thanks again
