I purchased a silver bracelet at a thrift store and am trying to find out anything about it. It looks Arabian or possibly Turkish. I think it is old...maybe antique. It is hallmarked twice with the same symbol...a star inside a crescent moon and that's it...no other hallmarks present. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me to identify either country of origin, age or what (if anything) the scimitar/crescent moon symbolizes.
Thank you.
Silver Bracelet Scimitar thru Crescent Moon-Hallmark Star inside Crescent Moon
Re: Silver Bracelet Scimitar thru Crescent Moon-Hallmark Star inside Crescent Moon
The bracelet looks to be Algerian silver (North Africa). The word across the band says جزايريّة [Jazaayeriyyah] Which means 'Algerian'. If you have a look at the flag of Algeria, you will find the same motif as the hallmark.

That's very interesting! Thank you very much! I did take a look at the Algerian flag and it does look like the hallmark on the bracelet. Do you know if silver items produced in Algeria are required to have the hallmark of the country rather than a maker's mark?

Also, I forgot to ask...do you know if Algerian silver is the same as sterling (.925) or is it something else. Thank you very much for your help.
