Jarosinski & Vaugoin

Post by amena »

In the past Dognose had pointed the strangeness of finding the head of Diana coupled to the chalice of Jarosinski & Vaugoin.

I recently found the same pair of mark : cup + head of Diana in some cutlery.

To clarify the matter I wrote directly to the company, and Mr. Jean Paul Vaugoin, very gently replied, explaining that actually the mark JV was used when the object was sold by the company itself, while the chalice was used when the product was made to be sold by a retailer, and as far as he knows, the chalice has been used from the beginning.
I quote here an excerpt of his email

The “goblet” is still the sign of our trade mark / hall mark.
The “VMS” means that it was sold by a wholesaler (jewellery shop) called “ Victor Maier Söhne”, so we produced it for them.
In these days our “J V” mark was just used when the silver article was directly sold in our shop.
As far as I know we used the chalice right from the beginning. But I have to admit that due to the 2 wars many documents got lost.
We have many antique pieces produced in our company from the 19th century with the chalice.

I think this information is very important and I thought I'd post them here
