Serving spoon

Post by amena »

Hello everyone
I ask for help to determine, at least approximately, the manufacturing date of this spoon.
Image
The St. Mark pattern, was very popular in Italy, from the eighteenth century until today, with many variations, so it is difficult to draw conclusions from the style.
The spoon has no hallmark, only a mark AS, very clear, and some engraved letters, probably initials of the owner. I browsed several books without success.
My gut feeling is that it is not an Italian spoon.
Observing the spoon you can see very well the two welding lines one upper (red arrow) and one underside (green arrow) that are slightly staggered. This makes me think that this is not a repair, but that the spoon was built so from the beginning, and this could be a clue to hazard a date. Or not?
Any opinion will be appreciated.

Excellent!
Rosenberg should never be underestimated because he had accesses to historical documents and important ecclesial silver. We would have never heard of Angiolo Scarbello had he made spoons and domestic hollowware. He took part in decoration of niches in Santuario S. Antonio in Padova (three ornate doors). Joh.Adolf Gaap of Nuernberg finished the middle door but died. He managed to execute 150 pieces of decoration, but much was left unfinished. Side doors were finished by the Venetian master A.Barci and Angiolo Scarbello, who made figures and ornaments on the south or right door, as well as figures on the left (north) door. Decoration was made both in silver and gilded copper.
The spoon is piece of history; Santuario S. Antonio in Padova is one of the most important monuments in the world.
If you visit The Basilica in Padova, show us what he made (marks, too)

Hi,
Excellent, the description of the mark is exactly as expected:
identificazione: marchio dell'argentiere (stella fra le lettere A, S)
Cheers
