Unknown French mark on a cast vase

Post by zilverik »

Hello,

This art nouveau vase is cast, not driven. Weight: 101 gr.; height: 6,7 cm; biggest diameter 7,2 cm; diameter stand: 4,4 cm. Gilted inside. The marks are placed under the bottom and on the upper side. No minerve-mark, only the .800 hall-mark for small articles: the wild boar's head. Makers mark is F "symbol" L in lozenge. I have never seen this makers mark before and I can't find it. Anyone can find this maker?

Regards,

zilverik

Hello zilverik,
Look at Département de la culture Française - www.culture.gouv.fr/public/mistral/marque_fr
The translation of a cobbler's awl in French is "une alène de cordonnier"
When you type "alène" as a symbol you get the info.

His predecessors were Joseph Adoue (1857-1877) and Labat & Pugibet (1877-1897).
They both used the same symbol.
The mark of Joseph Adoue is published in "Dictionnaire des poinçons de fabricants d'ouvrages d'or et d'argent, Paris 1838-1875, by Catherine Arminjon, James Beaupuis & Michèle Bilimoff.
