Have I read The Italian Marks Properly?

Hello,

I acquired this sweet little goblet (3cm tall) and I wondered if anyone can confirm that I have read the Italian hallmarks correctly?

BR is for Brandimarte s.r.l.

800 is for the fineness of silver

* 283 F1 in a cartouche :
- I'm not sure what the star is for apart from that when used within this style of marks it denotes the object was probably made after 1968?
- 283 is the maker's number for Brandimarte s.r.l.?
- F1 is the city mark for Firenze?

Also there is the fantastic resource on here about Italian silversmiths and their numbers but how would I search from within this archive to say find the silversmith mentioned in this post? I put in various search terms but no results came back and with so many pages to look through it would be hard to manually go through each one trying to find the mark I was looking for.

Many thanks to anyone who can help : ) ,

Greg.

Hi Greg,

Yes, you've read it correctly.

See: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... start=3640

The star mark came in about 1971 (1968 was when the law was passed), see: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... 38&t=27003

To search, in this case, just put 283 to the Italian topic, and then this will show all the 283 registrations that we've recorded so far.

Embedded images get more responses.

Hi Greg,

That's great, but please remember to keep your images to within the 7" (18cm) width limit. This is best achieved by cropping the image to remove the excess background.

It's all a learning curve, but once you've mastered it, it becomes second nature.
